Caroline Stokesberry-Lee is an Irish jewellery designer, working from her studio in Belfast. Caroline grew up on the North Coast of Ireland, where she was deeply inspired by the raw rugged coastlines and the mythical undertones of the Irish countryside, which surrounded her. Caroline’s jewellery resonates a deep appreciation of the poetic beauty found in everyday life. Raw and uncut gemstones are often used in her work as an appreciation of the delicacy and beauty found in natural imperfection.
1. What was the biggest challenge about launching your own brand?
My biggest challenge was managing my time effectively so I could focus on what needed to be done to launch my brand. Striking a balance between everyday life commitments, family and all that goes in to your own jewellery brand is something that is only learnt with experience.
2. Please tell the inspiration behind your current collection?
My current collection is inspired by the raw rugged coastlines and mythical undertones of the Irish countryside, on the North Coast of Ireland where I grew up. I have a love of gemstones and in particular raw and uncut gemstones such as blue kyanite, which I combine in my jewellery to create contemporary but timeless pieces.
3. Do you have a mentor?
I don’t have an official mentor, however my partner who works in the film industry, is my go to for any business advise or simply to bounce creative ideas off!
4. If your best friend was to describe you in three words what would they say?
Honest, Quirky, and passionate!
5. What does jewellery mean to you?
To me jewellery is more than just a fashion statement or a trend. It is an heirloom, something to be loved and treasured for years to come. At the same time, it can still be contemporary and unique….infact, striking that balance is what makes a piece of jewellery perfect to me!
6. How do you style your own jewellery?
I love stacking raw gemstone rings together, and wearing the most striking colour combinations. And I always wear earrings…usually big silver hoops.
7. If you old raid anyone else’s jewellery collection who would it be and why?
I would love to have a look at Hope Sandoval’s jewellery collection….she has a fascinating personality and I loved her music, especially her use of the tamborine and harmonica during her performances!
8. Which Alice in Wonderland character would suit your style of jewellery and why?
The Cheshire Cat! He is comfortable with his own quirky personality, and embraces everything unusual and unique. He definitely wouldn’t be the type to follow trends!
9. Any insider news on new collections you are working on?
I am currently working on some exciting new statement pieces as part of my current collection, and experimenting with a few initial ideas for a new collection…it’s very early days though!
10. What drew you to showcase your gems on WNDRLND?
I loved the whole concept of wndrlnd….a collection of online boutiques each run by specially curated edgy designers. In particular, I was drawn to the fact that Wndrlnd was all about jewellery!
WNDRLND would like to say a big thank you to Caroline for allowing us to step inside her personal jewellery Looking Glass and thank you for the love, yes WNDRLND has one big jewellery crush! To discover the full collection click HERE
