It is in African history, in the heart of the great kingdoms of gold, bronze and silver, that the jewellery designer Marie-Paule Tano, draws her inspiration. Originally from Ivory Coast, she grew up in Europe and it is in London, where she studied, at Central St Martins and Holts Academy, and lives today, that this atypical young woman, founded her brand, in 2013. With ROKUS, she infuses edgy/rock accents to the traditional aesthetics of African jewellery and Art. By merging the symbolism of masks and traditional figures, secular forms - such as the famous Fulani earrings or the Baoulé signet rings with architecture and contemporary art, Mp Tano gives the flamboyance of African jewellery a modernity that is singular and audacious.
